Wishing Superintendent Byrd the best as she officially retires today from Polk County Public Schools. Five years ago, our district needed new leadership. Mrs. Byrd answered the call. She was a reassuring presence, someone who seemed equally comfortable in boardrooms, classrooms and community events. She also moved us forward, increasing PCPS’ district grade to a “B” and taking our graduation rate to new highs. Mrs. Byrd stood with us as we celebrated our successes and faced hardships. We opened new schools, launched new programs, withstood hurricanes and adapted to the challenges of an unprecedented pandemic. The years have passed quickly and we are grateful for the memories. Thank you, Jackie.
