COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for Children Age 5 and Older Scheduled for Nov. 17-18

Polk County Public Schools is partnering with the Florida Department of Health in Polk County to operate pop-up vaccination clinics at two local high schools. At these clinics, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be available to any student age 5 or older. IMPORTANT: There is no requirement for PCPS students, employees, or their families to be vaccinated; it is entirely voluntary. Children under 18 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. The clinics will be held: • Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Ridge Community High (500 Orchid Drive, Davenport) • Thursday, Nov. 18, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Lake Gibson High (7007 N. Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland) Both clinics are open to any student in Polk County age 5 and up, as well as their family members and PCPS employees. No appointment is necessary. The vaccination is free of charge. The clinics will also offer COVID booster shots to those who are eligible. The Pfizer vaccine has been approved for anyone age 5 and up. The Pfizer vaccine is a two-series shot, meaning two doses are required to become fully vaccinated. Individuals who receive the Pfizer vaccine will need to receive a second dose. Information about follow-up doses is detailed below. Pfizer vaccine follow-up dose Those who received their first dose of Pfizer on Nov. 17 at Ridge Community High will be scheduled to return to the high school on Dec. 8 for the second dose. Those who received their first dose of Pfizer on Nov. 18 at Lake Gibson High will be scheduled to return to the high school on Dec. 9 for their second dose. Individuals who receive the Pfizer vaccine and cannot return on those specific days will be given additional options on when and where to get their second dose. Again, there is no requirement for PCPS students, employees, or their families to be vaccinated.
