Lakeland bus, train, and airport updates

Spread the love

Get a move on. There are changes coming to the planes, trains, and buses of Lakeland. We’ve got the transportation scoop here:

Buses

The Citrus Connection is developing a downtown Lakeland circulator route, which would allow passengers to travel directly across downtown without needing to transfer and would speed up other city routes. The addition is planned to begin on Sat., Oct. 1 and will run Monday-Saturday.

The new route is inspired by the success of The Squeeze, a downtown shuttle that currently offers service on Friday + Saturday from 4-11 p.m. It’s so popular that The Citrus Connection may bring back The Squeeze’s lunchtime service, with plans to include a designated parking lot.

Planes

Passenger service may return to Lakeland for the first time since 2012. The Lakeland City Commission renewed its contract with Volaire Aviation Inc., a consulting agency that specializes in bringing air passenger service to airports

An air of mystery. One unnamed airline is already in negotiations with Lakeland Linder International Airport.

Trains

The SunRail expansion project is on track for progress. Polk County approved a study known as the Transit Concept and Alternatives Review which will explore funding options for the rail.

The project is approximately six years away from construction. The expansion has proposed stops for Davenport, Haines City, and Lakeland, providing improved connectivity for the commuters of Polk County.
